The Knights of Columbus was founded on the principles of charity, unity and fraternity. The Knights of Columbus was established in 1882 by Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Conn., and a group of parishioners. Their intent? To bring financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Our council, the Knoxville Council #645 was founded in 1902, the oldest council in the Knoxville area and the 4th council in the state of Tennessee. We strive to help the parish and community in any way we can and have a variety of programs throughout the year in support of that mission.

Since our council’s founding in 1902, our goals have always been to support our Priests, Church, and local Community. As we try to live out the principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity, we would like to invite every Catholic gentleman, age 18 and older to join us. Ask any member at church who is wearing a Knights of Columbus badge, email us for more information at [email protected], or join online. First year membership is free to all online members using the Code: BlessedMcGivney.
Knights of Columbus, Knoxville Council 645, consisting primarily of members of Immaculate Conception, has developed a wonderful program at Ladies of Charity that puts bikes in the hands of adults who need transportation, but who cannot afford a car.
Knights and members of IC are now working with Ladies of Charity to expand the program to get bikes into the hands of children who have never owned a bike. While we were initially concerned with transportation for adults, we are now in the beginning stages of also expanding this ministry to children.
We have purchased and accepted donated bikes that members of KOC are in the process of looking over and making necessary repairs. Bikes will be given to those in need and their only charge is that they donate eight hours of community service. Most bikes are given away, but some are sold, and the money raised purchases necessary supplies to fix more bikes.
Here's how you can help this ministry:
¨ Donate a bike(s); you can drop them off at Ladies of Charity
¨ Donate money to repair bikes
