St. Anne, The Mother of Mary
The
memorial date is shared by both Anne and Joachim, the parents of Mary. In the
sixth century a feast for Anne was already celebrated in the Eastern Church.
Devotion to Anne, introduced in the eighth century in Rome, became widespread in
Europe in the fourteenth century. A feast for Joachim was introduced a century
later in the West. The Memorial Date of
St. Anne is July 26th.
