Mary, Mother of God
This is the oldest title given to Mary. In 325 the first ecumenical council at
Nicaea proclaimed that Jesus id truly the Son of God. Defenders of the faith at
that council were the first to call Mary "Mother of God". This title was
formally established in 431 at the council of Ephessu and after that time the
title was adopted in the prayers of the Mass.
The Feast Day of
Mary, Mother of God is January 1st.
