Freedom of Choice Act
Senator Barack Obama said when speaking to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund on July 17, 2007,
"The first thing I'd do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing that I'd do."
The sponsors of this bill openly admit that one of its main purposes is to nullify the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, which the U.S. Supreme Court has upheld. In addition the Freedom of Choice Act would require federal and state funding of abortion on demand, nullify all laws requiring parental notification or consent before abortions can be performed on minor daughters, and override laws requiring waiting periods prior to an abortion. The Freedom of Choice Act also eliminates regulations that protect women from unsafe abortion clinics, subjects women to abortions by non-physicians, and violates the conscience rights of nurses, doctors and hospitals. If passed into law the Freedom of Choice Act will impose upon the entire country an abortion regime far worse than anything brought on by Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has defined abortion as evil (1) and the Freedom of Choice Act as an evil law.
